The most structured and most framed method of all. You will be able to progress at your own rhythm and will not be influenced by the progress, or not, of others. If you have good chemistry with your teacher, this is the method that will allow you to progress quickly. This option will also allow you to direct your teacher on your specific needs, such as your future trip.

2. Attending a university course
Following a real language course will allow you to have a solid foundation since you will learn grammar before you begin to converse. Some students will be intimidated by this way of learning if they do not succeed as well as the group, while others will be stimulated. Most of the time, this type of course is offered in small groups of 15 to 20 people.

Since there will be no exam at the end of the course, you can apply your knowledge directly in the wild!
3. Take a course in a book
You will be able to go at your own pace and skip sections as needed. However, the foundation will not be as solid if you do not complete the whole program. Also, it may take more time for you to assimilate everything. You will not have the teacher retraction or the motivation from other students. You have to create and commit to a strict schedule to see results. Also, no assignment, no testing, and no evaluation, so it is hard to track your progress.

4. Follow an audio course
No heavy book to carry, no need to prepare for a test. You go straight to the objective of learning to speak a foreign language. I like this method that allows everyone to practice their new skills right away. On the bus, the clinic waiting room or at the grocery store, we can follow our courses everywhere. On the other hand, they are no feedback. You will not know if your pronunciation is adequate before using it on the spot.

5. Practice with friends who speak the desired language
You are not going to learn all the subtleties of the language, but perhaps you will learn typical expressions. Your friends may not use the right verb tense or the appropriate word but at least, learning will not be perceived as a chore.

You can use all the unimaginable methods, but if you are not able to apply your knowledge in the field, it will be a waste of time and energy. So no matter how you learn, nothing is better than practice.
