Essentials not to be caught off guarde on the other side of the planet

What to bring?

essentialsI travel many kilometers on a trip, so it is important for me to travel as light as possible. Even if I want to leave with only a backpack, I can not. I do not want to wear the same clothes throughout my entire trip and waste my valuable time washing them. So I have no choice, I bring with me a small suitcase that makes the trip in the aircraft’s hold and a backpack that never leaves me.

Essentials can be purchased locally, but I do not have the luxury to lose time for this either. So, I always bring them with me. Depending on the destination, some essentials will be available in your hotels, but this is not always the case. It’s better to plan ahead or inquire in advance!

When you are packing, it is necessary to deposit the items prohibited in the cabin like scissors and liquids of more than 100 ml in your suitcase. Here is another reason why backpacking is not an option for me.

Explanation of some items:

[i] Money Belt: It is the best way to keep half of your money and credit cards in a discreet passport pouch.

[ii] Copy of your passport and all your credit cards: Keep in a safe place, such as in the hotel safe or concealed in your suitcase. If you traveled with friends, exchanged your copies.

[iii] Money in local currency: Prefer small cuts and get enough currency to support yourself in the first week. It is also best to divide this money into several safe places.

[iv] Sewing kit: If a button decides to unbutton or a zipper breaks on the 2nd day, a sewing kit can save your journey. Yet, it is necessary to know how to use it!

[v] Universal socket/converter: One of my best investment. Bringing several batteries can be bulky, a charger is more convenient and efficient.

[vi] Clock with alarm: It can be a cell phone or a small clock, but it is essential. The hotel’s clocks are not reliable, but your own is. I would not want to miss my boat or plane, because of a faulty alarm clock.

[vii] The umbrella can be easily purchased locally, but you will never have the quality of the want you own. A raincoat can be sufficient during a light rain, but nothing’s worth a good umbrella in case of heavy rain for several days.

[viii] Thermos mug: A water bottle or a reusable one is a necessity. It is not always easy to find a water fountain or a coffee. In the case of lack, being able to bring one with you is a very good option.

[ix] Plastic bags: For slipping dirty or wet clothes. Once filled, it can be used as a filler for fragile objects that are brought back as souvenirs.

[x] First aid kit: Better to prevent. I did not need this often, but when you get hurt. You do not want to find a pharmacy, especially if you do not speak the local language of the country or you are in the middle of nowhere.

[xi] Universal hair dryers: For long hair, a good dryer is necessary. Those present in most 3* or 4* hotels that I visited were not very reliable.

[xii] Gravol: For those who have air or sea sickness like me, it is an indispensable.
